Card making

Last minute rush

As usual, I have been disorganised and not made the Mother’s Day cards in time. My visit to my mum was a spontaneous one so I bought her card, otherwise I wouldn’t have got there in time. Tonight however I have made one for my mother in law, as my husband is going to visit her in the week. I’ve been itching to make something pretty with my new Tattered Lace hummingbird die, and this was the perfect opportunity.

I’ve also been pinning card techniques like crazy and decided to try out a half cut using my nesting dies. The video definitely looked easier than it was, and the result was disappointingly imperfect in terms of fitting together. It needed a bit of jiggling to get anywhere near a good line on the edges! I do love trying to create a card using shades of the same colour, sometimes simple really is better. It’s really hard to remember that when I want to use ALL the embellishments on one project.

You can just about see in the bottom right hand corner a little tag with sentiment stamped on it. That wasn’t my original intention, but I had stamped ‘MUM’ using a set of cheap stamps from a magazine and they had lost their cling. They made a real mess and so I had to do a cover up job! (I suspect it might be time to bin them and invest in a decent set of letter stamps). It wasn’t the end of the world though as it stopped the base from being quite so plain, and I got to use my new label cutting die.

I don’t love the layout, but I cannot stop looking at the beautiful hummingbird. It just cut so cleanly and Tattered Lace dies really do work beautifully. Fingers crossed that my mother in law likes it!
