Real Neat Blog Award

Thank you so much to Valerie over at Woodsowild for kindly nominating me for this award. I can only apologise for taking so long to accept and write this post. Her blog is well worth a visit so make sure you take a look.

Here are the rules for the Real Neat Blog Award:

  1. Post the award logo on your blog.
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  3. Thank the people who nominated you and link to their blog.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like and link to their blog.
  5. Let them know you nominated them by leaving a comment on their blog.

Now to answer the questions which Valerie posed.

  1. What motto or quote do you live by?

I’d like to say it was something profound, highly inspirational or motivating but the thing I seem to say/use most is ‘if in life you wish to thrive, let a spider run alive.’ My Nanny told me this 5 years ago, when I said I was getting braver at killing spiders because I knew I’d have a baby (her great grandchild) to defend. Now I always rescue them and send them outside and tell everyone else to do the same. Bizarre and slightly superstitious but I didn’t want to test the theory!

  2. Why did you decide to start a blog?

When I left full time teaching, I had more time on my hands. I was going to start a craft/teaching blog as I used to make a lot of things got my classroom but I never had the time. It’s been lovely to write for a purpose other than lesson planning or university assignments!

  3. Besides blogging, what are two other favourite things you like to do?

Crochet and baking. Simple, but I don’t bake anywhere near as much as I’d like to because not many things are Slimming World friendly.

  4. What is your favourite book, TV show and movie? (All three, please!)

My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I could read it over and over, it’s not as ‘dark’ as the others and I’m still hopeful that it’s real! Choosing a favourite TV show is tricky because I don’t seem to get much time for it, but I did love Downton Abbey because it was such a fantastic period drama. When it comes to films, anything about the end of the world is a hit with me (such a cheerful soul!) The Day After Tomorrow is probably my favourite as Mr C and I went to see it on our first date. Having said that, I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy too, a lot.

  5. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who don’t acknowledge you when you’ve given way to them in the car, and people who don’t pull over a bit when the road is narrow and expect you to park your car in a ditch for them to get through. (It’s a real problem in this part of the country!) In fact any form of driving rudeness bugs me. Maybe I should use the train more often!

  6. Other than a parent or family member, which person (real or fictional) was the biggest influence on you growing up?

So tricky! My teacher in the juniors (who taught my class in Y3, 4 and 6) was someone who inspired me to teach, as she tried so hard to get a balance between learning and fun. The poor woman was either unlucky or actually really liked my class as 3 years is a long time to have the same group of children!

  7. If you were headed into the woods alone for a week, what one item (besides some sort of fire starter) would you take with you?

A multi tool. I reckon I could do quite a lot in a week and, as much as I’d like to say I’d take my crochet, something more practical would have to take precedence. On second thoughts, I’d just take Mr Craft, because he’s quite a handy chap.

Here are my 7 questions:

  1. How did you decide on your blog’s name?
  2. What is your favourite food?
  3. What is your favourite way to relax?
  4. Do you have a ‘party trick’? If so, what is it?
  5. Which place in the world would you visit if you could go anywhere?
  6. Do you believe in any superstitions?
  7. If you could have one thing custom made for you, what would it be?

Nominations are tricky for me as most of the blogs I follow have already been nominated. Recently, though, two friends of mine have started blogs so I’d like to nominate them.

  1. A Lincs Mums Life
  2. One Step Forward at a Time

If anyone else I follow hasn’t been nominated and wants to join in then please feel free!

  1. Such interesting answers, and thank you for your kind words. I wish I’d heard that motto long ago — I once did a horrible thing to a dock spider (the ones that can grow to be bread-and-butter plate size) and have suffered dismal karma ever since. My all-time favourite movies are the Lord of the Rings series. And, besides selfish people, my biggest pet peeve is also ignorant and rude drivers!

    1. Thank you for the nomination, I’m sure your karma must be due to turn around very soon! I’m not a fan of the spider eviction process but I grin and bear it, or ask Mr C. At school I have been know to direct brave children on the process from a safe corner of the classroom. 😂
