Knitting

WIP Wednesday

No, I haven’t been overdoing on the Christmas spirit and I know it’s a day late! WIP Thursday just sounds a bit, well, rubbish. I’ve been very busy being the proud mother of Joseph in the school nativity and ferrying him to and from school in the evenings (walking, my Garmin is beginning to wonder if it has a new owner!)

Anyway, craft time has been sadly limited. All I have managed is another jumper, this time for Duck. The base is still on my needles, but the rest is done. It was a real learning curve as the gauge was completely different because it was a different brand of yarn. I ended up going from a 4mm to a 5mm set of needles. I’m not sure it was the right decision as it is perhaps a little more loosely knit than I’d like. Maybe I should have rewritten the pattern with a new gauge swatch? It doesn’t look awful but it’s given me food for thought about pattern writing and the knitting process.

The fair isle pattern also looks wonky on the sleeves, maybe I should have also reversed the pattern for the second sleeve so they were symmetrical. Lots of things to consider now, but I think it looks very festive! I did manage to add a curved neckline thanks to lots of advice from fellow bloggers, particularly Bekki of The Dartmoor Yarn Company. That part worked pretty well so I’ll definitely keep that change to the pattern.

What are you working on? Are Christmas gifts still your main focus? Feel free to share! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  1. Bask in the Nativity warmth! Also, the jumper looks great, you have DESIGNED something (yay!), and, it is for a toy, so knitting tension is really not a major concern! You are having a pretty darn good week!

  2. At the moment I have no real plans for making any Christmas presents … but that still has time to change. lol

The jumper is MAGNIFICENT! I love the pattern, and the colours you chose. It all ‘works’ together and it will look wonderful on Duck. It has a vintage style charm about it, which I know Cath Kidston would love in some of her items. It’s a one off and rightly so.

I’d buy it, if I found it on a craft stall, at a Christmas Craft Market. If it didn’t fit his teddy that he’s got, then I’d buy a new teddy which it would fit. It’s THAT wonderful.

  3. Your sweater is adorable. I think the sleeves look just fine. I am afraid I haven’t created any Christmas presents again this year, but there is always for next year, right? Did 10 hours of power shopping yesterday with hubby and I think I am almost ready for Christmas. I am planning on sewing a tree skirt today and I am still cross stitching on Passione Ricamo’s “Journey Into the Deep” mermaid. I am hoping to finish her soon. Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas.
