It’s all change on the project front here; the crocodile stitch slippers are all finished and I frogged the hat as I decided I wanted a warmer yarn. Never fear though, im not projectless as I have started two new projects!
I’ll start with Mr C’s socks, since it’s his birthday today. He asked me to make him some welly socks, although I don’t think I have quite enough yarn for them to be fulllength. What I did decide to do was start toe up, so that I just knit until the end of the ball of yarn! That way they are as long as they can be. This yarn is West Yorkshire Spinners and I love the stripes appearing, the colours are fantastic together. This progress shot was from Sunday just to show the stripes, as I had to frog as it was a bit wide and I haven’t got as far on the new one.
I’ve also started my first shawl, using a beautiful yarn from Hand Dyed by Kate in the colourway Water Nymph. It’s the Spindrift Shawl, the pattern for which is currently free if you subscribe to the workshop for it (also free). When I first started it, I looked at the eyelets and thought I’ve messed up here and then I looked at the photos and that’s how they’re meant to be. Phew!
What are you working on this week? How’s it going? Do you have any tips for toe up sock knitting or shawl knitting that you can share? Leave a comment and let me know!
I keep wanting to try socks, but they intimidate me.

Give them a go, honest, my first pair were rubbish but I learned so much from them as they use different techniques to a lot of other knitting.

Just have fun really with toe up socks- oh, and maybe check to see whether one sock needs to be a few rows longer than the other one! (Just don’t then forget which one is longer!)

LOVE all the projects but particularly like that Yarn – Water Nymph. Ohhh that’s so so pretty. I can see that working for lots of things. Hats, scarves, gloves, waist-jacket woollies. Jumpers, both for men and women. Socks, leg warmers too!

This is so funny that I’m also making my first knitted shawl! I love your colour š how are you finding the tie up socks? I didn’t really like making the heel on the ones I just finished, I much prefer having a gusset, it looks neater. If you have any advice I would be keen to hear it š

Thanks, I’m approaching the first heel very soon so I’ll see how it goes. It seems like there’s hundreds of ways to make a heel so I guess I will keep trying new ones to see what I like. Sorry that’s no use on the advice front! š

Good luck! There really are so many ways to do heels! I’m the same as you, trying until I’m happy with a method š

Your knitting is beautiful! Love the colors of the shawl. Can’t wait to see more. i have never knitted socks (and honestly don’t want to) so I can’t help there. I have also never knitted a shawl…yet. I do have a few that I want to try. Right now I am still cross stitching on the Mystery Sampler and still loving every stitch of it. I am just about finished the June section. I am also knitting on my Temperature blanket when I can. I think I am up to the end of May on that one. So many projects I want to get back to and start, but forcing myself to getting these 2 projects caught up. Enjoy your knitting projects š

Thank you, I never thought I’d knit a shawl but this one looks very light and drapery so hopefully I will wear it. Your projects sound lovely, it’s nice when you do feel like you’ve caught up with things. That’s when I hit danger point with the temptation of casting on a new project!
